South American Electric Motorcycle Demand Surges, Market Enters Rapid Growth Period.

Since 2026, the electric motorcycle market in South America has witnessed explosive growth. Demand in core markets such as Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina has continued to rise, making it one of the most promising incremental markets for the global electric two-wheeler industry. High oil prices, favorable policies, and the expansion of the food delivery economy are the three core factors driving the skyrocketing demand.
According to authoritative industry data, sales of electric motorcycles in South America increased by more than 40% year-on-year in 2025, a growth rate far exceeding the global average. Among them, Colombia performed particularly prominently, with the annual number of registered electric motorcycles approaching 20,000, an increase of 55% over the previous year. It is estimated that its market penetration rate will rise to 15%–18% in 2026.
Countries such as Brazil and Argentina have also released market vitality simultaneously. Brazil launched the "Mover" green transportation incentive program, implementing policies such as import tax exemptions and purchase subsidies for electric motorcycles. Core states such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro also exempt electric motorcycles from the IPVA tax, significantly reducing the purchase cost for consumers. In Argentina, total motorcycle sales in the first quarter of 2026 soared by 45.5% year-on-year, with the proportion of electric models increasing significantly, becoming the main driver of market growth.
High fuel prices have become a key driver for people to switch from fuel-powered to electric vehicles. In major South American cities, the energy consumption cost of electric motorcycles is about 30% lower than that of traditional fuel-powered motorcycles, and the maintenance cost is also lower, making them popular among ordinary people and food delivery workers. At present, South American food delivery platforms have purchased electric motorcycles in batches to form delivery fleets, further boosting market demand.
Industry insiders predict that sales of electric motorcycles in South America will exceed 100,000 units in 2026, and the market will maintain an average annual growth rate of more than 12% in the next five years. With the gradual improvement of local charging infrastructure and the enhancement of consumers' environmental awareness, the South American electric motorcycle market will enter a period of sustained and rapid development.
