Since 2025, China's electric tricycle industry has witnessed multiple key changes: on the one hand, a national standardized management policy has been implemented, and low-speed electric tricycles and quadricycles have been officially incorporated into the motor vehicle management system and legally registered. On the other hand, technological breakthroughs by leading enterprises have driven the industry to upgrade from traditional transportation tools to automotive-grade intelligent mobile terminals, and the industry landscape is undergoing a profound reconstruction.

According to the detailed rules jointly issued by multiple departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Public Security, the first group standard for low-speed electric vehicles will be implemented simultaneously with the new national standard (GB 17761-2024) in July 2025. Electric tricycles have been clearly classified into management categories - both ordinary three-wheeled motorcycles (with a maximum speed > 50km/h and motor power > 4kW) and mopeds (with a maximum speed ≤50km/h and power ≤4kW) must be included in the management of motor vehicles, and hard indicators have also been set for core parameters: The vehicle body width should not exceed 1.5 meters, the curb weight should be no more than 400kg, the maximum speed should not exceed 50km/h, and it must be equipped with an ABS anti-lock braking system, pass the 3C certification and be included in the product announcement directory of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. As of late November, 31 provinces across the country have launched the business of registering compliant vehicles. Over 1.8 million vehicle owners have completed the registration. In Shandong, Chongqing and other places, subsidies for trading in old vehicles for new ones have also been introduced. Compliant models can be purchased for as low as 15,000 yuan, significantly reducing the cost of car replacement for the elderly.
